Although written for inexperienced and aspiring teachers, Teaching from the Outside In could also be useful for practising teachers who need a little brush up or inspiration to get refocused on how to not only survive, but have a good time as a teacher. The authors have pooled the wisdom gleaned from 100 collective years of teaching experience, and organized what they have learned into six chapters: Planning Professionally, Evaluation, Approaches to Learning, Classroom Management, Approaches to Teaching and Inclusive Education. This manual is like a crash course in teacher training; granted it won’t substitute for personal experience and coaching by a mentoring teacher, but it gathers a wealth of really useful advice into one easily digestible package. It’s like sitting down around the staff room table and discussing what actually works to address the many common issues that teachers face each day—a survival kit put together by people who have been there.
